About Ask & Embla Wood Co.

Ask & Embla was born in a home garage in Dee Why - and the belief that children are more capable than we give them credit for.

Originally from Norway, Sindre is the founder of Ask & Embla Wood Co. Growing up, making things with your hands wasn't a hobby - it was just part of life. An engineer by trade, Sindre brings the same precision and problem-solving instinct to every session. Ask & Embla is Sindre's way of giving children the same foundation he had: real tools, real challenges, and the quiet confidence that comes from building something from nothing.

Our workshops are rooted in Sløyd - a Scandinavian educational tradition that uses craft to develop focus, patience, and independent thinking. It's not art. It's not a kit. It's woodworking, done properly, in a calm and focused environment where every child is trusted to do the real thing.

Sessions are capped at five participants. No exceptions. Every child works on a project they help design, using actual woodworking tools, and leaves with something functional they built themselves.

Sindre holds a Working With Children Check and $20M public liability insurance.

Both kids (8 & 10) thoroughly enjoyed the stool holiday workshop. So much hands-on learning creating something of their own. In their words, "It was lots of fun and time just flew by!" They also said Sindre was a wonderful teacher and are keen to go back again. Genuine, lovely family. Highly recommend.

My son (9) loved his Sunday workshop there recently and the work involved in making his wooden stool. He learned so much about the process and was very proud of the result after learning to use the tools. He's excited to try another one!

My son had the best time ever at the woodworking workshop during the school holidays! It was fun, interactive, and very well instructed. We’d love to come back for an adult-and-child session next time.

The teacher was really nice. It really felt like it was me that made the stool, it was my work and not made for me by someone else. I really enjoyed it, it was super fun. -Eva (age 10)
